Update on severe weather conditions Sunday 05/12/2010 @ 15:25

The major primary routes across the County remain much improved and traffic conditions are generally good. Motorists are reminded however to reduce their speed and to drive cautiously, especially tonight when temperatures are forecast to drop, with the added risk of black ice.

Secondary roads and some estate roads remain hazardous. However some local residents have done sterling work on clearing snow from footpaths outside their homes, which has greatly assisted the recovery effort.

Our gritting crews have been out over the weekend and will continue to prioritise primary routes. There have been instances of burst watermains over the weekend and our crews have also been out fixing leaks to restore water supply to houses affected. Please continue to report leaks to burstmains@dlrcoco.ie and we will respond as quickly as possible.

As the cold snap is set to continue well into next week, we would urge local residents to avoid unecessary travel and to continue to monitor http://www.transport.ie/ and http://www.meteireann.ie/ for regular updates on current weather/travel conditions.
