Water Supply Update 7th November 2013 @15.45 hrs

Dublin City Council, on behalf of the four Dublin Local Authorities, wishes to announce that due to an increase in production at our Ballymore Eustace Water Treatment Plant, and improvements in storage at our treated water reservoirs, the water shutdowns and severe pressure reductions that have been in place since 30th October 2013, will be lifted from this evening.

Dun Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council wishes to thank its customers for their patience during the period of water restrictions, which we had to put in place over the past week. Due to the cooperation of all water users, we managed to save a significant amount of water and our regional strategic storage, which was at an extremely and unsustainably low level over the past week, has improved.

Storage at our treated water reservoirs is currently below the level it would normally be at this time of year. We will be keeping reduced water pressure in place in the evenings over the coming weeks, to gain additional treated water storage. This is normal practice at this time of year. This will enable us to plan ahead for the high demand Christmas season, and to cater for the difficulties that the onset of extremely cold weather at this time of year can bring. Water users should not be impacted by this reduced pressure and all users should receive a return of supply this evening.

Water is Precious, Let’s conserve it!

Water Restrictions 6th November 2013 - Updated 16.50 hrs

Dun Laoghaire Rathdown County Council is advising its customers that production at Ballymore Eustace Water Treatment Plant has begun to improve, although it is still well below normal production levels.  Coupled with this, storage levels at our treated water reservoirs remain at an unsustainably low level. Accordingly, the current water restrictions will remain in place tonight from 20:00 until 07:00 the following morning.  This will be reviewed on Thursday 7th November 2013.

The pressure reductions will result in large parts of the County experiencing a complete loss of supply during these hours and the Council is therefore advising that all customers expect and plan for a loss of water supply tonight.

Restoration of supply following the previous night’s restrictions will commence at 07:00 each morning. Due to the nature of the work involved (watermains have to be recharged slowly) this process can take a few hours with some households receiving water almost immediately while others, at the extremities or on high points in the system, not receiving a full supply for a number of hours. Also, as DĂșn Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council contains a high proportion of older housing stock with associated older plumbing system, householders living in these older houses are likely to experience delays in the restoration of full water supply and in particular the re-filling of storage tanks.

Other problems, such as air-locking of pipes, can result in a lack of water in bathroom and toilet fittings. For further information on how to solve an air locking problem please refer to

http://www.dlrcoco.ie/aboutus/councildepartments/wateranddrainage/findit/watersupply/#Air Locks /

We wish to thank consumers right across the Region for their patience and for assisting us in our efforts to restoring water supply to normal, by taking conservation measures themselves when we return supply to them each day.

Dublin Water Restrictions will remain in place until at least Thursday 7th November

Dublin City Council have this evening issued a press release on behalf of the 4 Dublin Authorities confirming that the current water restrictions will now remain in place each evening until at least Thursday 7th November.

The press release also states that an analysis of the current situation carried out at Ballymore Eustace Water Treatment Plant, has shown a stabilisation in production at the Plant. However, despite this stabilisation, production at the Plant is still at a level well below that required to meet demand. Coupled with this, storage levels at our treated water reservoirs remain at an unsustainably low level.

A series of tests currently being conducted at Ballymore Eustace involves adjusting the various inputs to the treatment process, with the objective of identifying what caused the slowdown in production and how to resolve the issue. Dublin City Council Engineers and our Central Laboratory Technicians continue to work 24 hours a day, to identify the cause of the problem and to mitigate the effects. As previously stated, it may take some time to completely resolve the issue.

Water Restrictions Update – Period 1st November 2013 to 3rd November 2013

Due to a serious production problem at the Region’s Ballymore Eustace Water Treatment Plant, the four Dublin Local Authorities are urging consumers all over the Dublin region to conserve water in an effort to restore the levels in the Region’s Treated Water reservoirs.

Pressure reductions will be put in place across the County each night from 20:00 until 07:00 the following morning. This is being reviewed on a daily basis but will remain in place until at least 4th November 2013.

The pressure reductions will result in large parts of the County experiencing a complete loss of supply during these hours. Due to the widespread and severe nature of the pressure reductions, it is difficult to predict the full extent to which any part of the County will experience water loss on a given night and the Council is therefore advising that all customers expect and plan for a loss of water supply over the next three nights.
