20:30 - 18/01/10 Evening Review - Progress in some areas but no room for complacency

Senior Engineers have reported that significant progress was made over the weekend and throughout today in finding and fixing leaks across the County - many houses in the Killiney and Ballinclea area have now had water supply restored after full resources were deployed to identify and fix the source of the problem.

Engineers have warned however that there is no room for complacency - leak detection and repairs continue across the County and a number of households continue to have water supply problems. Every effort is being made to rectify the situation and tankers remain on stand-by to distribute water tomorrow in the Killiney/Dalkey area, Tuesday 19 January (see earlier post for times and locations).

Householders and businesses are being urged to sustain their efforts to conserve water, even though in many instances their supplies are already restricted - the priority must be to build up the capacity of the reservoirs to ensure the long term viability of the water network across Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown.
