Water Disruption - 31st October 2013

Due to a serious production problem at the Region’s Ballymore Eustace Water Treatment Plant, the four Dublin Local Authorities are urging consumers all over the Dublin region to conserve water in an effort to restore the levels in the Region’s Treated Water reservoirs.

Pressure reductions will be put in place across the County each night from 20:00 until 07:00 the following morning. This will be reviewed on a daily basis but will remain in place until at least 4th November 2013.
The pressure reductions will result in large parts of the County experiencing a complete loss of supply during these hours. Due to the widespread and severe nature of the pressure reductions, it is difficult to predict the full extent to which any part of the County will experience water loss on a given night and the Council is therefore advising that all customers expect and plan for a loss of water supply over the next four nights.
The Council apologises for this disruption to the water supply.

Restoration of supply following the previous night’s restrictions will commence at 07:00 each morning. Due to the nature of the work involved (watermains have to be recharged slowly) this process can take a few hours with some households receiving water almost immediately while others, at the extremities or on high points in the system, not receiving a full supply for a number of hours. Also, as Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council contains a high proportion of older housing stock with associated older plumbing system, householders living in these older houses are likely to experience delays in the restoration of full water supply and in particular the re-filling of storage tanks.

Other problems, such as air-locking of pipes, can result in a lack of water in bathroom and toilet fittings. For further information on how to solve an air locking problem please refer to
